Sheringham’s level crossing closed in 1967. It was once very busy with trains from Norwich to Melton Constable and beyond. This book describes the aspirations of the fledgling North Norfolk Railway to see the level crossing re-instated. Despite the closure trains did cross the road on several occasions to bring in heavy locomotives and rolling stock.

One of these occasions was “Operation Coachbelle” when a train crossed the road after the track had been lifted and the road re-aligned! This book is dedicated to the work of countless volunteers who made this possible. Many are now able to look forward to the North Norfolk Railway being joined to the national network again.

Brian Fisher meticulously recorded most of the events with his superb photographs.
