North Norfolk Railway Terms and Conditions

General

Whist every effort will be made to adhere to the published timetable, all dates, times and services are subject to amendment or cancellation.

The North Norfolk Railway Plc. cannot be held responsible for any loss or inconvenience should it become necessary to alter or cancel the advertised services.

The NNR reserve the right to ask any member of the public to leave the railway if it is deemed necessary to do so, including if they are seen using abusive language, unruly behaviour that is likely to cause themselves or others harm or damage any property.

Dogs are allowed to travel, but are not allowed to stand on the seating or tables. You may be asked to leave if they do so.

No alcohol other than that purchased on the railway may be consumed on our property. You will be asked to leave if you do so.

Tickets should be purchased at the station ticket office before boarding the train. It is an offence to travel without a ticket.

Late Arrivals

We advise you to check the timetable before travelling and allow at least 30 minutes before the time of departure to park your car, purchase your tickets and board the train.

Under no circumstances will the train be delayed for latecomers, even if the rest of the party is already on the train.

No refunds will be given for missed trains.

Bookings

All bookings are subject to availability, varying ticket terms and conditions may apply.

You may pay over the phone by credit card or by sending a cheque or you can call in and pay cash. Some bookings can be made over the Internet.

An administration fee may be applicable on some bookings.

Vouchers are available. One month’s notification must be given to the NNR of your chosen date of travel.

Advance reservations are held for 7 days and are cancelled if payment or deposit is not received in that period. A minimum deposit of 25% will be required for all bookings.

All payments should be made in one transaction, unless a deposit has been agreed. Payment by instalments is not accepted for any bookings.

When payment has been received your tickets will be dispatched via the method selected when you made your purchase.

Tickets will be posted as soon as possible. Please allow 14 - 21 days for delivery. Alternatively tickets can be collected from Sheringham or Holt ticket offices.

Changes, Cancellations and Refunds

It may be possible to change the date and time of a ticket once it has been confirmed, depending on the type and availability.

Changes will carry a minimum of £5.00 administration fee.

If you choose not to use your ticket, refunds will depend on the conditions applicable to each ticket type and refunds may not be given on certain types. The issuing of refunds will be at the discretion of the Duty Officer.

Cancellations and refunds will carry a minimum of a £5 administration charge.

Damage
Passengers will be held responsible for any damages they may cause to any part of the railway stock or premises and will be charged the full cost of repairs.

Group Bookings

All bookings are treated as provisional until a minimum of 25% of the total cost has been received as a deposit. The deposit must be received within 7 days of booking or the order will be cancelled without notice.

The client must inform the North Norfolk Railway of the anticipated group numbers and required train not less than 7 days before the date of travel.

Final numbers must be given to the NNR at least 48 hours prior to the booked date. The amount payable by the client will be calculated on this final number or who actually attend, whichever is the greatest.

Payment of the remaining balance is due on the day of travel and is payable at the G.E. Room at Sheringham Station, unless credit has been prearranged with the North Norfolk Railway before the travel date. Where credit is agreed the client should pay within 28 days of the invoice.

Changes, Cancellations and Refunds

The deposit is not refundable, although it may be possible to transfer the booking to another date. An administration fee of £5 may be charged.

Full payment will be required unless 7 days notice of cancellation is given in writing.

Damage
The client will be held responsible for any damages caused by the clients or their guests, agents, employees etc and will be charged the full cost of repairs.

Special Events

40s Weekends, Thomas Weekends and Galas

Special Fares will apply for these events. See the individual leaflets for details.

Tickets purchased in advance may have a discount if purchased 7 days before the event.

All tickets are ‘day rover tickets’ and do not have reserved seats.

Passengers with tickets do not need to visit the ticket offices and can board the trains at any of our stations.

Full payment is required at the time of booking.

When payment has been processed, tickets will be dispatched via the method selected when you made your purchase.

Tickets will be posted as soon as possible. Please allow 14 - 21 days for delivery.

For late bookings, tickets will be held at reception. The location of this will be advised.

Tickets are not refundable but it may be possible to transfer them to another date.

An administration fee of £5 may be charged.

Murder Mystery Trains

Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Tickets include travel, entertainment and a 3-course meal. Seating is reserved.

Full payment for tickets must be at the time of booking or within 7 days, except for parties of more than 8 people.

Parties of more than 8 people may pay 25% of the total cost as a non-refundable deposit. This deposit must be received within 7 days of booking or the order will be cancelled without notice. The remaining balance must be received no later than one month before travel.

Bookings will be cancelled if the necessary payment is not received within the required timescale.

An administration fee will be charged per transaction at the time of booking.

Menu choices must be received no later than 7 days before the date of travel.

Santa Specials

Tickets include travel, entertainment, seasonal refreshment and a visit to the grotto. Children are entitled to see Santa and receive a present.

Nobody is permitted to travel without a ticket, regardless of their age.

Passengers under 1 year of age are classed as infants, children are aged between 1 and 14 years of age and passengers over 14 years old are classed as adults.

Only infants and children receive presents from Santa.

The railway must be notified of any children or adults with special needs at the time of booking and we will make every effort to accommodate them.

No dogs are allowed to travel on the Santa Specials.

Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society

Bye Laws (Rules) approved at AGM 2006

The Society’s Articles provide for the Council to make such rules or Bye Laws as it may deem necessary for the proper conduct and management of the Society and for the purposes of prescribing classes of and conditions of membership including the rights and privileges of members, the terms on which members may resign or have membership terminated, entrance fees, subscriptions etc.
The members have the power to alter or repeal the rules or Bye Laws and to make additions to them in General Meeting.

The Council have the right to waive or amend the criteria for membership in relevant and exceptional circumstances without recourse to the Members. Such changes will not constitute any precedent and each case will be considered individually.

2.             Membership

  1. all members i.e. principal and associate members age 16 and over have the right to vote;
  2. all members under 16 have the right to attend and speak at meetings but have no right to vote;
  3. junior members reaching the age of 16 and student members reaching age 22 shall normally be required to pay the full adult subscription;
  4. membership is not transferable and shall cease immediately upon death; however in the case of death of a principal member any attached associate or family membership shall continue until the next renewal date; for Associate Adult Life members, membership continues until death.
  5. notice of general meetings shall be sent addressed to the principal member who shall be responsible for ensuring all other members domiciled at the same address (for the purpose of their membership) shall be made aware of the notice and shall receive a voting proxy form if relevant.

3              Period of membership (not applicable to Life Members)
Membership is valid for twelve months from the date of joining or the first quarter date for renewal arising thereafter.

4              Termination of membership
Members have the right to terminate membership at any time by giving written notice to the membership secretary. The Society can terminate a member's membership immediately in the event of non-payment of the subscription or at the recommendation of Council. In the event of termination of membership upon recommendation by the Council, the member shall have the right of appeal as set out in 6 below.
No refunds of membership fees shall be made or due in the event of termination of a membership for whatever reason.

 5             Privileges

  1. Principal members will be entitled to receive copies of 'Joint Line'. The purpose of associate membership is that all mailings will be sent only to the address of the principal member and associates and junior family members will not receive copies of general mailings.
  2. 75% DISCOUNT on the following fares will be available to members travelling with a valid membership card on the North Norfolk Railway. The discount applies only on full return fares (i.e.: Rover tickets for adults, senior citizens and children) excluding Special Events.  There will be no discounts on Family Rovers, single tickets, or part-journey single or return tickets. There will be no discounts at any special event advertised in the published timetable, or at any other event specified by the North Norfolk Railway PLC. Any special one-off discounts negotiated by the Society Council for special events will be communicated separately. The reduced rate fare benefit cannot be used in conjunction with any other discounted, promotional or special fare.
  3. Premier Adult members are entitled to free travel and Premier+ Adult members are entitled to free travel for the member and one guest.
  4. There will be no discounts on catering or shops, though special offers may be made from time to time to members at the discretion of the Commercial Manager of the North Norfolk Railway PLC.
  5. Other privileges may be offered from time to time as published in Joint Line or notified to the members.

6              Members Right of Appeal
In the event of a dispute arising between a member and the Council, the member shall have the following right of appeal:

  1. Initially the member should appeal in writing direct to the Chairman or Secretary of the Council. A committee of three Council members appointed by the Chairman or Secretary shall hear the member’s appeal. The member shall have the right to be represented. The outcome of the appeal shall be communicated to the member in writing within 7 days of the appeal hearing, and if accepted by the member the decision shall be binding on both parties.
  2. If the decision reached by Council in (a) above is rejected by the member, the member shall have the right to request that his/her appeal be considered by the membership at the next scheduled General Meeting of the Society. The Council and the member shall be required to make all correspondence and other relevant documentation available for inspection by the membership at the meeting. The decision of the meeting shall be final and binding on both parties.

7              General
Membership of the Society does not entitle members to a right of access of the Society's assets.

Members must abide by the rules of operation of the North Norfolk Railway PLC whilst visiting or working on the railway and volunteers must apply for and conform to the North Norfolk Railway's requirements for volunteers. Copies of the relevant documents are available at Sheringham station, or are posted on the railway.
